RADECS 2026
From 28 September to 2 October, Hi-Acts joined the international radiation effects community at RADECS 2026 in Prague. The annual conference brings together scientists, engineers, technology providers and industry to exchange the latest developments in radiation effects on electronic and photonic components and systems – from radiation testing and dosimetry to radiation hardening and reliability. Representing Hi-Acts, Anna Anochin, Paul Harten and Alina Dittwalt from Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) presented Hi-Acts Space Services and connected with experts from the space, aerospace, semiconductor and electronics sectors. Numerous conversations at the Hi-Acts booth focused on a key question: How can components and technologies be reliably tested for environments in which radiation can significantly affect their performance?
One access point for radiation hardness testing
Galactic radiation, high-energy particles and extreme environments place demanding requirements on modern electronics. This is particularly relevant for satellites and space missions, but radiation reliability also matters for technologies used on Earth – from high-altitude aviation to safety-critical electronics and medical devices. Hi-Acts Space Services brings together specialized expertise and irradiation infrastructures at HZB and GSI, making them accessible through a single entry point. hi-acts.de
The service goes beyond providing access to irradiation facilities. Test campaigns can be tailored to specific operational scenarios and are accompanied by experienced radiation scientists. Available methods include Single Event Effects (SEE), Displacement Damage (DD), Total Ionizing Dose (TID), and heavy-ion microbeam testing with in-situ material analysis. Tests can be performed around the clock during available beam times. hi-acts.de
For companies and research partners, this means easier access to complementary capabilities and expertise – helping them assess radiation effects, identify potential risks and advance the reliability of technologies intended for challenging environments.
New connections – and plenty of conversations to continue
RADECS 2026 provided an excellent opportunity to introduce these capabilities to an international expert community, discuss concrete testing requirements and establish new connections. The conference itself reflects the breadth of the field, covering topics from radiation environments and test facilities to radiation hardening techniques and radiation hardness assurance. A big thank you to the RADECS 2026 organizers and community for an inspiring week, valuable exchanges and a great opportunity to connect science, infrastructure and industry.
And finally: Prague provided a pretty spectacular backdrop – almost as spectacular as our star-filled Hi-Acts booth.
